We are all combatants. The war is raging on two fronts – in the living earth and in the living mind. Everything is at stake, but the outcome is not yet certain. We can still win.
The earth is rising to reclaim what men with pens blindly declared they owned. Climate collapse, mass extinction, ecological breakdown – these are not just disasters. They are the Hard Front in the War Between Flow and Fixity, and on the Hard Front Nature is destined to win. The outcome is certain. The only question is whether humanity survives. More →
In every domain of human life – identity, governance, knowledge, art, commerce, food and more – the dialogical forces of Code are dismantling the monological authority of Text. This is the Soft Front. It is a war for your mind, your heart, and your soul. Unless Flow triumphs over the ecocidal forces of Fixity on the Soft Front, we are doomed to be consumed by Nature on the Hard Front. But there is still time. If we act now. And act together. More →
Humanity only survives if Code remembers what our Oral Elders have always known: that we are all connected. Not just virtually, but biologically and spiritually.
For two million years, human culture was dialogical, nomadic, and rooted in the living earth. Knowledge lived in bodies and voices. Status was earned by giving, not hoarding. The circle was the architecture of community.
Writing fixed the world: ownership, identity, law, history, truth. The rectangle replaced the circle. The individual replaced the community. And nature was declared a resource. This is the world most of us were born into. It is ending.
Networked code has restored the dialogical – responsive, fluid, immediate. But without the guardrails, or the earth-wisdom of OS1. Until Code builds its bridges to the Elders of Talk, it will remain ungrounded. And ungrounded, Flow is doomed, as is humanity.
To overcome OS2’s ecocidal bugginess, bridges must be built between OS1 and OS3 as rapidly as possible. Oral values and knowledge must be ported to the datasphere, where they can inform and guide its nascent rise, before OS2 brings our world to an end. That is truly our only hope: a life-saving hack of OS1 and OS3.
